  9. Sale San Giovanni — Lavender Fields

    The "Little Provence of Piedmont" — lavender, helichrysum and aromatic herbs bloom mid-June to mid-July. Four marked walking trails, €2 contribution at peak season.

  1. Big Bench #100 — Bossolasco

    One of the milestone benches of the Big Bench Community Project, on the Hill of the Resistance.

    Inaugurated in 2022 with project founder Chris Bangle, on Strada Galli near Cascina Facelli.

    Yellow-and-blue bench along the road down from Passo della Bossola — quiet hilltop panorama.

Castles and historic villages

  1. Castello di Barolo (WiMu)

    The Barolo Castle in the centre of the village — houses the WiMu wine museum and the Corkscrew Museum next door.

  2. Castello di Grinzane Cavour

    UNESCO landmark on a vineyard hill, with the Regional Enoteca and a restaurant.

  3. Castello di Serralunga d'Alba

    Striking vertical 14th-century castle dominating the Barolo hills — guided tours available.

  4. Castello di Castiglione Falletto

    Squat round-tower castle at the centre of the village — exterior viewing only, but the borgo around it is worth the wander.

  5. Castello di Verduno

    Once a Savoia hunting lodge — now a small hotel and restaurant, but accessible to walkers in the village.

  6. Castello di Roddi

    First "sentinel" castle on the Strada del Barolo coming from Alba — hosts a truffle-dog training school.

  7. Castello di Novello

    Neo-Gothic castle on a hill over the Tanaro valley — currently a hotel-restaurant.
